Komatireddy slams BRS for politicising SLBC tunnel mishap

Komatireddy criticised BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao for engaging in political criticism during the ongoing rescue efforts

Nalgonda: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday called on BRS leaders to refrain from politicising the SLBC tunnel incident. The minister had camped at Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district, where he oversaw rescue operations by the NDRF and the Army to free eight workers trapped after a section of the tunnel roof collapsed.

Speaking to the media, Komatireddy criticised BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao for engaging in political criticism during the ongoing rescue efforts. He recalled that similar incidents had occurred during the previous BRS government, noting that Rama Rao had not offered solace to the families of those affected.

The minister defended Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's decision not to visit the tunnel, explaining that his absence was intended to prevent interference with the rescue operations. He stressed that a team of ministers and MLAs was actively supervising the effort, condemning any distractions amid the crisis.

Highlighting the state government's commitment, Komatireddy pointed to the rescue of workers from a collapsed Himalayan tunnel in Uttarakhand in 2023, where trapped workers were rescued after 17 days, with rat miners among the rescuers. He expressed optimism that similar methods would lead to the safe extraction of the eight workers from the SLBC tunnel.

Further, the minister announced that the state government had reached out to renowned international companies to procure advanced machinery necessary for the rescue.
