Kondapochammasagar drowning: Visitor crossed safety barrier, drowned

Hyderabad: Police said that locals had built a safety barrier at the Kondapochammasagar reservoir, cautioning visitors against crossing the line in view of the deep water ahead. The group of five city residents apparently missed the sign, or ignored it, and proceeded towards the water, police sources told Deccan Chronicle, as they began piecing together the events that led to the tragedy.

The survivors Mohammed Ibrahim, a delivery executive, and Komari Mrigank, a diploma student, informed the police that none of the picnickers knew swimming and were not familiar with the depth of the water at the point at the reservoir.

They said the group was very excited about the prospect of taking selfies, not realising that they had entered the danger zone.

Ibrahim and Mrigank said that the group crossed a stone boundary and entered the water, which was about 4.5 feet deep at that point, and began taking selfies and reels. From there, they entered the deeper section and drowned.

Ibrahim and Mrigank said they were shouting out warnings but the five of their friends vanished into the deep water within a few seconds.

Police said that the group had entered the prohibited zone through the fields, parked their bikes at the temple and from there walked towards the reservoir.
