Hyderabad: Nine months after the Congress government took office, several official social media handles of politicians-in-office and government entities are still following accounts of key persons from the previous BRS government.
Hyderabad’s Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, who joined the Congress on March 30, still follows BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, BRS MLC K. Kavitha and the BRS official party handle on Instagram. Although she follows the Telangana CMO page, she does not follow Chief Minister Revanth Reddy nor any other minister on social media.
The state education department on Twitter follows only six accounts, two of them being of Rama Rao and former education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy.
The X account of HMDA also does not follow any incumbent ministers, but follows a 1 million+ account by the title “Minister KTR”.
Similarly, several GHMC zonal accounts also follow the handles of BRS leaders. The X accounts of the zonal commissioner of LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Khairatabad and Secunderabad all follow the accounts of Rama Rao and his personal assistant.
While the Secunderabad zonal commissioner’s account does not follow anyone from the current office holders, the account of Kukatpally commissioner follows Revanth Reddy’s X account.
Accounts belonging to several GHMC deputy commissioners also follow Rama Rao and other BRS leaders, without following any current ministers. Accounts of Quthbullapur, Gajularamam and Chandanagar deputy commissioners all follow Rama Rao and his subsidiary accounts, while none of them follow either the Chief Minister or any of his other ministers.
Even the Hyderabad Metro Rail accounts were in a similar state. After reaching out to Hyderabad Metro Rail about why they are still following the handles of the previous government, they quickly unfollowed all of them on Twitter. But on their Instagram handle, they are still following Rama Rao.
