KTR Petitions Telangana High Court Over FIRs Filed by Congress Leaders

Based on a complaint filed by Congress Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, the Saifabad police had registered an FIR that Rama Rao, in a post on his ‘X’ handle on August 20, 2024, had made defamatory remarks against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao filed three separate petitions in the Telangana High Court, in which he sought to quash the FIRs filed against him in different cases.

Based on a complaint filed by Congress Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, the Saifabad police had registered an FIR that Rama Rao, in a post on his ‘X’ handle on August 20, 2024, had made defamatory remarks against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

The tweet read: “Mark my words Cheap Minister Revanth. We will clear out the trash from the surroundings of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat the very day we are back in office. Cannot expect a Delhi Ghulam like you to ever understand the self-respect and pride of Telangana. Using filthy language in front of school children shows your lousy thinking and rude upbringing. Wishing you speedy healing from your mental sickness.”

The Utnoor Police registered case against Rao on a complaint received by Congress candidate Athram Suguna, who complained that with the false speeches by the BRS leader on the Musi rejenuvation project, she had received multiple inquiries from Maharashtra residents regarding allegations that the Congress had siphoned off `25,000 crore from the project.

Justice K. Lakshman of the High Court heard the two petitions and issued notices to the police and defacto complainants to submit their contentions.

In third petition, Rama Rao and former minister G. Jagadish Reddy sought to quash the FIR at Medipally police station of Rachakonda commissionerate, which was registered on a complaint by C. Naveen Kumar alias Teenmar Mallanna. Mallanna had alleged that Rama Rao and Jagadish Reddy had orchestrated a malicious and scandalous campaign against him during the MLC elections, when he contested on a Congress ticket. He also alleged that fake videos were circulated on social media platforms with the intent to tarnish his reputation and influence the upcoming elections.

Justice Lakshman refused to hear the petition on the ground that during his practice he had appeared in a case in which Jagadish Reddy was involved. The court directed the Registry to place the case for the Chief justice for listing before another bench.
