KTR Taunts Govt to Face Him in Assembly on E Race Case
Hyderabad: BRS working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao in the eye of a brewing storm over the conduct of E-Formula car races in Hyderabad during the BRS regime, on Tuesday challenged the government to hold a discussion on the races in the Assembly, and declared that he was ready to respond to the government charges during such a discussion.
Rama Rao is expected to face an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau into his role, and money trail related to the races. That the probe was on the cards was revealed by minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy after a meeting of the state Cabinet on Monday evening. Srinivas Reddy had said that the Cabinet had decided to have the Chief Secretary write to the ACB seeking an investigation into all aspects of how the races came to the city, and their conduct, and Rama Rao’s role in it.
Rama Rao was responding to this development while addressing a meeting of his party leaders and workers from Kondangal constituency at Telangana Bhavan, the BRS headquarters. “The government can come up with any formula it wants in the Assembly. I am ready for a debate and will respond there on the charges. Let there be a discussion in the Assembly and not in a Cabinet meeting between four walls. My recommendation to the government is that it should focus on working for the people instead of finding ways to put people behind bars on trumped up charges,” Rama Rao said.
He also assured his party representatives from Kodangal that the BRS will keep fighting for all those who have been arrested following the Lagcharla incident. “All that everyone now is talking about is what happened at Lagcharla and the arrests. Today, our MLAs went to the Assembly in handcuffs and this had all the country’s media talking about the incident,” he said.
