KTR’s Criticism on Reforms Boomerangs

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao scored a self-goal on Sunday when he tried to criticise the Congress government on the state’s performance in the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP): It turned out that the report, highlighting Telangana’s poor showing, was based on the previous BRS government’s performance in 2022.

In a series of posts on social media, the BRS leader heaped praises on Kerala but ignored Telangana faring well in all the parameters of Ease of Doing Business. The BRS leader in his post went on to say that "The Congress government should hang its head in shame that a top-performing state like Telangana is now a worst performer."

A Congress leader said, “After being exposed for quoting data from a year when the BRS was in power, will the BRS leader hang his head in shame?”

IT and industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu strongly hit back at Rama Rao, for tarnishing the reputation of the state, as Telangana was one of the states that performed exceptionally well. He revealed that Telangana was among the 17 states that were selected as top achievers. Sridhar Babu took strong exception to Rama Rao making misleading statements based on a report in a newspaper.

Charging that the baseless allegations by Rama Rao had tarnished the state’s reputation, Sridhar Babu said that the Telangana government had implemented 100 per cent of the 352 parameters of the Business Reforms Action Plan. He mentioned that the Union ministry of commerce and industry presented the award on September 5 to the state government for this performance.

Sridhar Babu also pointed out that the media had reported on Telangana's industries commissioner Dr G. Malsur receiving the award from Union minister Piyush Goyal. He said that instead of congratulating the hardworking officials of the Industries department for securing the award, Rama Rao making disheartening comments and criticising the government was neither appropriate nor admirable.
