KTR's tweet on Ease of Doing Business rankings misleading

Hyderabad: In a tweet that has sparked a fresh political debate, Telangana former IT Minister and BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) criticized the state's decline in the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) rankings, attributing it to the inefficiency of the Congress-led government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. KTR highlighted Telangana’s previous top-tier performance during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime, expressing disappointment that the state had now failed to secure a place in the latest EoDB reformers' rankings.

However, the fact is that the rankings KTR referred to are based on the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) for 2022, when the BRS was in power, leading to allegations that his tweet was misleading. Observers argue that blaming the current Congress administration for the rankings ignores the timeline of the reforms on which the report was based. The issue has become a point of contention as political leaders from both sides continue to trade barbs over the state's economic performance and governance.

"It is unfortunate that Telangana, which consistently secured the top spot in the EoDB rankings during the BRS rule, has not even found a place on the list in the EoDB reformers' rankings now," KTR tweeted, accusing the Congress government of tarnishing the state’s brand image and business climate. "The Congress government should hang its head in shame that a top-performing state like Telangana is now a worst performer."

KTR further accused the Revanth Reddy administration of prioritizing "shady ventures and shell companies of cronies" over effective governance, contributing to Telangana's decline in the national business environment.

The debate over the EoDB rankings is expected to intensify in the coming days, with both parties looking to capitalize on the issue to sway public opinion.
