Lack of evidence hampering probe of Meerpet murder

Hyderabad: The police investigating the murder of Venkata Madhavi in Meerpet, whose body was dismembered and cooked before being disposed of, are struggling to find evidence despite a confession from her husband, Gurumurthy.

While Gurumurthy, an ex-Army man and security guard at the DRDO, admitted to killing his wife and dismembering her body, the police have not been able to get any physical evidence.

Although he gave disturbing details of how he had cut her body and boiled them, no remains or evidence were found to back up his story.

Police officials admit that without the body or any forensic proof, they are unable to officially classify the case as a murder.

Gurumurthy has continued to challenge the police, stating that they will not be able to prove his involvement in court due to the lack of evidence.

His attitude and the absence of key evidence have left the investigators with no choice but to keep the case under the missing persons’ category for now.

However, an officer opined that there are other aspects that the investigating teams can explore like the cell phone tower location of the deceased. Though Gurumurthy admitted that he had cleaned the house completely, there could be some lead in the form of hair in the kitchen sink or blood droplets.

Meanwhile, the police are not revealing any details pertaining to the case and are only stating that the ‘missing’ case is under investigation
