Lagcharla incident: Vikarabad police seek six-day custody of Narender Reddy
Hyderabad: The Vikarabad district police on Thursday sought six-day custody of former BRS legislator Patnam Narender Reddy for questioning in connection with the Lagcharla incident in which Vikarabad collector Pratheek Jain and revenue officers were attacked during a public hearing on land acquisition for setting up a pharma unit.
Additional DGP (law and order) Mahesh Bagwat and IGP (multi zone-II) V. Satyanarayana visited the Parigi police station and verified the mobile phone that was seized from Narender Reddy, after getting directions. They are verifying the mobile phone and call data of Narender Reddy to get more leads in the case.
The officials directed the investigation officer to collect call data of Narender Reddy's number for possible leads into political influence in the incident. As the key players in the rioting incident are still absconding, police with focus on the accused, and will form special teams.
According to police, key accused B. Suresh is still absconding. The police have collected call data of Suresh, who is a resident of Manikonda. He was in touch with senior BRS party leaders days before the Lagcharla incident.
Meanwhile, senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao visited Chanchalguda central prison and met Narender Reddy and inquired about his arrest.
Hours later, Reddy challenged the remand report on his arrest and, in an affidavit, declared that he did not give any confession statement to the police.
In the affidavit addressed to the Kodangal court, he write that he had never mentioned the name of BRS working President K.T. Rama Rao and rejected the remand report saying everything in the report was “motivated” and was aimed at targeting him by “political adversaries and opponents.”
He said in his affidavit that after he was taken to the government hospital, Parigi, for a medical check-up and asked to sign some papers. Within 10 minutes after that, he was produced in court.
“They informed me that I was accused no. 1,” he said, adding that this process was “illegal on part of the police.”
On inclusion of Rama Rao’s name in the remand report, Reddy said that he was informed by his wife on Thursday that the “police created a fake story of some confessional statement allegedly given by me alleging that my alleged involvement in the incident… was as per directions of Rama Rao. I have not given any such confession to the police at any point of time, nor have I stated anything as alleged.”
