Law would take its own course in Allu Arjun’s case: CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the law would take its due course in the case involving actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested following a tragic stampede during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 at Sandhya theatre on December 4.

Blaming the actor for the stampede, the Chief Minister said the former could have watched the film in his home theatre.

“They screen benefit shows, sell tickets for higher prices and make money. Why should film heroes be treated separately. Have they fought battles in borders for the country and won?,” he said in a media conclave.

Later, speaking informally with media persons while camping in Delhi on Friday, Reddy clarified that the state government has no role in the investigation and assured a fair and impartial legal process.

"Everyone is equal before the law. I will not interfere in the investigation of this case," Revanth Reddy said, addressing concerns about potential political influence playing a part in the case.

He confirmed that the police were acting in accordance with legal protocols after the incident led to the unfortunate death of a woman.

Meanwhile, belying speculation, he stated that no discussions were held with the party high command with regard to Cabinet expansion.

"There has been no discussion on Cabinet expansion as of now. On the one hand, the Parliament session is underway and on the other, the Legislative Assembly session is also taking place. Congress leaders at both the national and state levels are fully occupied with these sessions and there is no time to discuss this issue," he stated.

However, party insiders believe the Cabinet expansion could happen before December 31, once the Parliament session concludes on December 20, followed by the Assembly session.

This timeline, they suggest, would provide an opportunity for the Congress high command to meet top state leaders to finalise the expansion.
