1.24 Lakh Students of ANU in Limbo, Seek CM's Help

Students gathered at the 217th CM Prajavani at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Praja Bhavan and submitted their appeal.

Hyderabad: Uncertainty looms over the future of 1,24,524 students who completed distance education courses through Acharya Nagarjuna University, as they approached the CM Prajavani to seek recognition of their certificates and job eligibility on Tuesday.

Students gathered at the 217th CM Prajavani at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Praja Bhavan and submitted their appeal. They said admissions were given under Section 95 of the A Reorganisation Act, 2014, which allows students from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to study through distance mode. Many secured jobs in various departments until 2021.

The situation changed in 2022 after the Telangana Council of Higher Education refused to accept certificates issued by the Andhra Pradesh-based university. Students told officials that even though the High Court ruled in their favour, recognition for employment is still pending. “Due to this, the future of 1,24,524 students from Telangana has become uncertain,” they said.

CM Prajavani incharge Dr G. Chinna Reddy spoke to senior officials from the education department and the Public Service Commission and brought the issue to their notice. He assured students that he would take steps to secure justice. Candidates also requested that vacancies in Gurukul schools be offered to next-ranked candidates after current selections are completed.
