Let TG Become a Model in Paddy Procurement: Union Food Secretary
Hyderabad:Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy sought the Centre’s support in certain aspects of paddy procurement for further improvements and strengthening the system.
He was speaking at a meeting with Union food and public distribution secretary Sanjeev Chopra. Chopra called for making Telangana a model state in the implementation of a streamlined paddy procurement system.
Under a new initiative called SMART fair price shop scheme, Chopra visited shop 819 located at AG Colony. He reviewed details of products available, assessed consumer demand and verified the credit facility.
The dealer said that he earned about `30,000 from the kendra in addition to the dealer margin. He was urged to scale up sales to earn a profit of `1 lakh per month.
The secretary inquired about the functioning of the fair price shop, inspected the quality of rice and wheat by verifying the ePOS distribution process. He also interacted with the beneficiaries who expressed satisfaction for receiving the quantity and quality ration on time.
Later, Chopra visited the state civil supply office where principal secretary D.S. Chouhan gave a detailed presentation on systemic changes brought about in various aspects of paddy procurement in the state.
