HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday announced that elections to the local bodies, including gram panchayats, zilla parishads, and mandal parishads, will be conducted soon. He urged party leaders and workers to gear up for the elections and work towards securing a resounding victory for the Congress.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) held a crucial Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting at Gandhi Bhavan under the leadership of AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, and senior ministers D. Sridhar Babu, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy were among the 23 prominent members who attended.

Venugopal lauded the Congress government’s performance over the past year, particularly the welfare schemes and grassroots engagement. However, he noted the areas for improvement, emphasising that some ministers need to increase their accessibility to people in their respective districts. Venugopal praised the weekly praja darbars at Gandhi Bhavan, encouraging ministers to replicate this initiative in their districts on a monthly basis.

Addressing the PAC meeting, Revanth Reddy stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation ahead of the upcoming local body elections. He urged the party cadre to effectively communicate the government’s welfare and development programmes to the people, counter opposition propaganda, and secure a comprehensive victory for the party.

He highlighted the government’s achievements during its first year in office, including several significant measures.

He said farmer's welfare Initiatives such as the Rythu Bharosa scheme, providing ₹12,000 per acre annually to farmers will start on January 26 and agricultural laborers will receive ₹12,000 annually.

The distribution of new ration cards is set to commence on January 26. The government has also subsidized LPG cylinders at ₹500, offered 200 units of free electricity, and implemented free RTC travel for women, he said.

The Chief Minister said that the government has filled 55,143 government job vacancies in one year, waived ₹21,000 crore in farmer loans, and allocated ₹54,000 crore for farmers' welfare.

A special session of the Legislative Assembly was convened to honour the former prime minister Manmohan Singh, during which an unanimous resolution was passed urging the central government to confer the Bharat Ratna on the late leader. The newly inaugurated Aramghar flyover has been named after Singh.

Sridhar Babu, addressing a press conference after the meeting, announced that the PAC has decided to give due recognition to party activists by accommodating them in nominated posts across corporations, market committees, and temple committees. This move aims to acknowledge the contributions of the committed workers.

The PAC also resolved to strengthen the party’s organisational structure from the booth to district levels by constituting new committees. This exercise will be completed within a month.

The PAC endorsed AICC’s "Samvidhan Bachao" (Save Constitution) rallies, which will be organized throughout the year. These rallies will protest alleged remarks by Union home minister Amit Shah against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
