Madhapur Hostels Fail Food Safety Checks

Hyderabad: The food safety task force, quipped with the 'Food Safety on Wheels' labs, extended its inspections to more paying guest (PG) accommodations and hostels in Madhapur on Tuesday.

Many hostels were found to be operating without any FSSAI license. Other violations included expired chilli powder and open dustbins at Sindhu Jaddu Women's Hostel. At Om Sri Sai Nandha Deluxe Men's hostel, workers were chewing gutkha while cooking and serving.

The FBO was also using synthetic food colours. Rotten vegetables and expired spices were found. The kitchen was kept in unhygienic condition with cockroach infestation. A soy sauce sample failed in the spot test.

At Tanusri Grand Women's Hostel, similar violations of hygiene and failure in spot tests were reported. Dustbins without lids found at Om Sri Sai Nanda women's hostel. Rusted tawa and unhygienic refrigerator as well as a work area in SR Ladies Hostel.

Samples of rice, chilli and turmeric powder were also collected from the establishments for lab tests. "Notices will be issued," said a tweet from the commissioner of food safety.
