Maha Kumbh Mela: Hyderabad-Originating Trains Witness 144% Occupancy

In all, 146 special trains were planned by SCR to originate from Hyderabad, and including those passing through the city, the total stands at 190 trains

Hyderabad: With the Maha Kumbh Mela ending on February 26, there is a last-minute rush for trains, particularly ahead of Maha Shivaratri. According to the South Central Railway (SCR), a total of 76 special trains originating from the city have already ferried around 1.4 lakh passengers to Prayagraj for the holy dip.

In all, 146 special trains were planned by SCR to originate from the city, and including those passing through the city, the total stands at 190 trains. These trains are running at an average occupancy of 144 per cent. Heavy passenger load at Prayagraj Junction and Prayagraj Rambag stations has prompted railway authorities to cancel a few trains due to congestion on the lines.

Across the country, Indian Railways has scheduled over 13,000 trains for the Kumbh Mela, with 12,583 already in service since January 13. So far, more than 3.09 crore pilgrims have travelled by train to Prayagraj for the grand religious event.
