Major Fire in Narsingi Claims Lives of Three Women

Three women, including a minor, died in a major fire at an independent house in Pasha Colony, Puppalguda, Narsingi, at 5.45 pm on Friday.

Hyderabad:Three women, including a minor, died in a major fire at an independent house in Pasha Colony, Puppalguda, Narsingi, at 5.45 pm on Friday. Some panic-stricken residents of the building jumped to safety while others were rescued by Good Samiratans in the neighbourhood.

Narsingi inspector Hari Krishna Reddy identified the deceased as Jameela Khatoon, 65, Suhana Khatoon, 30, and a six-year-old girl. A thorough investigation about the cause of the fire is yet to be initiated but the tentative cause of the incident is suspected to be a short circuit.

According to Narsingi sub-inspector Muneedeer, the house is owned by Osman, who runs a groceries shop. Sixteen members of his family were residing in the building. “They were so panic-stricken during that time that they weren’t even in a position to tell their own name,” the SI said.

Soon after officials received information about the incident, the Narsingi police, along with three vehicles and nearly 30 fire officers from the Langar Houz fire station reached the spot and doused the flames.

Surender, a fire officer from the Langar Houz station, told Deccan Chronicle, “The three deceased are suspected to have died of suffocation. The fire erupted from the ground floor, while they were in a room on the first floor. Seeing the fire, they panicked and locked the door. We broke the door open in order to rescue them, but their chances of survival had gone low by then.”

Surender explained: “People in the neighbourhood also said that there might have been a blast on the ground floor as there was a CNG car and two two-wheelers parked there. We still do not know the exact cause. As there was some paint work going on, some used ropes already present in the building to escape.”

“We shifted the three to Golconda hospital immediately, hoping CPR could save them, but unfortunately it could not,” Muneedeer said.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Osmania mortuary for postmortem examination. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
