Mamnoor Airport: Government Sanctions Rs 205 Crore for Land Acquisition
Warangal: The Telangana state government on Sunday sanctioned ₹205 crore for acquiring 253 acres of land for the expansion of Mamnoor Airport in Warangal, as proposed by officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), through Government Order (G.O.) No. 43.
Officials from the Airports Authority of India had previously submitted a proposal to the state government requesting the sanction of Rs.1,200 crore and the allotment of an additional 300 acres, supplementing the existing 693 acres. This expansion is intended to extend the current runway from 1.8 km to 3.9 km.
In their proposal, the AAI informed the state government of their readiness to develop Warangal Airport to accommodate A-320 type aircraft for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations. The AAI also committed to bearing the costs associated with infrastructure development, operations, and maintenance.
The sanctioned 253 acres will be used by the AAI to construct and expand the runway, build a terminal and Air Traffic Control (ATC) building, and install navigational instruments. Additionally, the AAI has prepared a master plan in accordance with guidelines provided in a letter from the state roads and buildings department.
Following a meeting with Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport Limited on October 23 regarding the operation of Mamnoor Airport, the state government issued a no-objection certificate to the AAI. Subsequently, orders were given to the Warangal district collector to acquire the necessary land for the airport's development by sanctioning the allocated Rs.205 crore.
