Hyderabad: The city task force on Friday arrested a 36-year-old gang member for posing as a police officer and cheating people. Police seized `95,000 cash and the fake ID card of a Karnataka police officer.
The accused was identified as Jaffar Ali, a resident of Irani Galli, Bidar, Karnataka. He had cheated five persons, police said.
Police said Ali would pretend to be a policeman and target individuals carrying cash, telling them that he needed to check their belongings. He would divert their attention and substitute the currency notes with counterfeits. On receiving a complaint, the task force police analysed CCTV footage from various locations, identified Ali.
