Man threatening Choppadandi MLA held

Police issued a lookout notice through the Bureau of Immigration after collecting his London address from his family members, said the ACP.

Karimnagar:The Karimnagar Rural police arrested one Yasa Akhilesh Reddy, was taken into custody by the immigration authorities on February 9 at Bengaluru’s Kempe Gowda International Airport, for trying to extort Rs 20 lakh from Congress’ Choppadandi MLA Medipally Satyam on Tuesday.

ACP Shubam Prakash told the media that in September last year, Satyam received a life threat and a WhatsApp call at midnight from a man who demanded `20 lakh from him.

On a complaint from the MLA, Kothapally police started an investigation and traced the call to London.

After tracing out the transactions carried out with the phone number, the passport of the person was found along with his local address. The accused was identified as Yasa Akhilesh Reddy, 33, a resident of Bhavaninagar of Boduppal in Rangareddy district.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Reddy was spotted on February 9 at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. The immigration authorities took the suspect into custody and informed the Kothapalli police who brought the accused to Karimnagar. Akhilesh Reddy was presented before the court where the magistrate remanded him into judicial custody.
