Mancherial: Traffic offenders do community service

ADILABAD: At least 27 motorists who were caught for drunk driving were deployed to do clean and green work on the premises of the Mother and Child Health Centre in Mancherial town.

Videos of the motorists cleaning the hospital were widely shared on social media. They were seen clearing the grass and removing plastic waste. Some of them were seen covering their faces with a towel to avoid being identified.

The offenders were handed down the punishment to clean the premises for seven days from 10 am to 5 pm every day. The judge also asked them to follow traffic rules while driving.

Earlier, the Mancherial traffic police produced the motorists before additional junior civil judge D. Upanishadwani.

Mancherial traffic inspector B. Satyanarayana said they were enforcing the ‘punishment’ for the 27 motorists and traffic police are supervising the cleaning and greening work.

In Peddapalli, traffic inspector Anil Kumar said at least 20 motorists were caught for drunken driving and were produced before Peddapalli junior civil judge N. Majula who imposed a fine of Rs 23,000 on them.

The judge asked the traffic police to utilise the services of Indarapu Ramesh of Kamanpur who was caught driving a bike in an inebriated state for traffic duties for two days in addition to a fine of Rs 500 each.
