Hyderabad: Residents in several parts of Hyderabad are struggling with a lack of water supply, even during winter. Despite the season typically being a time of lower demand, many households are left with dry taps, making them rely on water tankers or bottled water.
In Madhava Hills and JV Hills in Kondapur, the situation has been particularly challenging. “We haven’t had water for the last four days. This isn’t an isolated issue. We face water cuts at least two to three times every month — often without any prior notice from the authorities,” said Srinivasa Rao, a resident.
Another resident, Chaitanya, questioned, “We get water tankers from HMWSSB, but how come we don’t get proper water supply when they have water to send through tankers?”
Officials have stated that the issue is linked to a problem in the Masjid Bans region, which has disrupted supply to Kondapur and nearby areas, he added.
Shanthinagar Colony residents are dealing with a similar problem. “There’s been no water for two days and we haven’t received any communication from officials about when it will be restored. How are we supposed to manage like this?” said Ashwin Kumar, a resident.
In East Anand Bagh, Malkajgiri, the situation isn’t much better. “We haven’t had water for days and whenever we do, it’s always at such low pressure that it’s barely usable,” said a resident. Other areas like Ghazi Banda and Ahmed Nagar have also been without water for two or three days, leaving residents to arrange alternative sources.
“The problem isn’t with the pipelines in our area,” explained a resident from Anand Bagh. “It’s at the water board’s source. But why should we suffer because of their inefficiencies? It’s winter and we’re still facing shortages, this shouldn’t be happening.”
“Water is a basic necessity and we shouldn’t have to fight for it,” said a resident.
