Maoists Kill Two Persons Accusing Them of Being Police Informers in Mulugu
Hyderabad:Maoists on Friday killed two persons, labelling them as police informers in the Penugolu forest area of Vajedu mandal in Mulugu district. The deceased were identified as U. Ramesh, gram panchayat secretary and U. Arjun from Penugolu village.
Mulugu SP Shabarish said that the Maoists had been committing a series of atrocities as part of their attempt to turn the Karregutta forest area, which borders Chhattisgarh and Mulugu districts, into a guerrilla base.
Ramesh, a young tribal scholar who used to walk 18 km every day through the forest path, was selected as GP secretary. He never cooperated with the outlawed party.
Similarly, Uika Arjun, who lived by collecting forest products, was pressured by the Maoists to join them. He left his hometown Penugolu and came to Penugolu colony to work as a labourer.
On Thursday night, Maoists attacked them with sharp weapons and murdered them.
The SP said that Maoists were trying to assert their presence by denying the innocent tribal people access to roads, education and healthcare, branding them as police informers, and planting landmines in the forests and footpaths near villages, claiming the lives of tribals and their pets.
