Marredpally Vendors Back, Reopen Kiosks

Hyderabad: A couple of days after the GHMC and the SCB removed them, vendors were back at work on the footpaths of West Marredpally. The vendors said it was a matter of their livelihood.

At Isamia Bazaar, too, where the GHMC had shuttered outlets, chicken shops continued to stay open on Monday. The corporation has not yet initiated action there.

Syed Ansar, a vendor running a fast food centre on a West Marredpally footpath, said, “Where do we go? This stall feeds my family. I reopened my shop because I don’t have any alternative.”

Making matters worse, debris from the encroachment-removal drive remained scattered across the area, bringing more trouble to pedestrians and motorists. This included broken concrete, remains of shed structures and wooden planks. Some of the debris was dumped in front of a school.

“I don’t know why they did the demolition, but what is the point when they could not enforce it properly? So much hubbub, one day passes, and it is back to normal. Everyone is back to what they were doing,” said Jongi Ratnakar, a watchman at a nearby complex.

GHMC officials did not respond to Deccan Chronicle’s attempts to contact them.
