Massive anti-narcotics raids in Kollapur
Following excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao’s instructions to crackdown on marijuana cultivators and peddlers in his constituency, excise teams for the first time on Thursday used a trained dog to conduct anti-drugs inspections in Kollapur, Nagarkurnool district.

Hyderabad: Following excise minister Jupally Krishna Rao’s instructions to crackdown on marijuana cultivators and peddlers in his constituency, excise teams for the first time on Thursday used a trained dog to conduct anti-drugs inspections in Kollapur, Nagarkurnool district.
In all, 70 teams, including from the special task force, district task force, local excise forest department officials and police, conducted the operation. Two persons were arrested in the raids.
"We have booked 26 cases in Nagarkurnool district during the drive. Around 4,500 litres of jaggery used in preparing illicitly-distilled liquor and 24 vehicles were seized, along with nine mobile phones. It is reported that the ganja peddlers and suppliers fled the district after they came to know about the special anti-drugs drive," said director of excise and enforcement V.B. Kamalasan Reddy.
"Our teams conducted searches after identifying hot-spots in seven zones of Kolhapur constituency (Vipanagandla Chirumbavi Pangal)," he said. Nagarkurnool SP G. Vaibhav participated in the raids.
