Medigadda repairs to be completed in a week

MEDIGADDA: Interim flood protection measures recommended by the National Dam Safety Authority at Medigadda barrage, the worst hit among the three Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme structures, are progressing rapidly, and L&T, which built the barrage and was instructed to take up the repair works by the state government, said on Friday.

Company’s senior representative S. Suresh Kumar explained that nearly 90 per cent of grouting under the partially sunk Block 7 of the barrage had been completed, and that nearly 60 per cent of works placing cement concrete blocks for flood dissipation, after the downstream apron of the barrage too has been completed.

He was speaking at a press conference that was addressed by irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy after a review with senior irrigation officials, and L&T representatives, on the status of works at the barrage.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, who was accompanied by Congress MLC T. Jeevan Reddy, and some of his party MLAs, also inspected the work at the barrage visiting the stricken Block 7, checking on the progress, and told L&T officials that there must be no delays in completing all the scheduled work before monsoon floods begin arriving at the barrage.

The Medigadda barrage is built after the confluence of Godavari and Pranahita rivers. The company representatives informed Uttam Kumar Reddy that they expect all the work to be completed by June 15.
