Milad-un-Nabi Procession Deferred to Sep 19 to Facilitate Ganesh Festivities

Hyderabad:The Milad Committee has agreed to defer the Milad-un-Nabi procession, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, to September 19, following an appeal from the state government. The committee had initially planned to hold the procession on September 16.

The decision was made during a review meeting on Thursday night, presided over by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The meeting also covered the upcoming Ganesh festival, scheduled from September 7 to 17, and the immersion on September 17. Given the overlap of these events, the Chief Minister and several ministers suggested that the Milad Committee consider rescheduling their procession.

Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and D. Sridhar Babu, along with the Chief Minister's adviser Vem Narender Reddy, and AIMIM legislature party leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, were tasked with discussing the matter with the Milad Committee. Following a separate meeting, the committee members agreed to the government's request to postpone the procession, demonstrating a positive response to the suggestion.

During the discussions, members of the Milad-un-Nabi Committee informed that the 1499th birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad will be held on September 16 next year and requested Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to give permission for organising year-long celebrations for 1500th birth anniversary from September 2025. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy assured them that permissions would be granted as per the rules and regulations.

The committee sought approval for mosque decorations and processions in various district headquarters, to which the Chief Minister asked them to submit a list for consideration. He instructed Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu, DGP Jitender, and other officials were present in the meeting.
