Minister Ponguleti: BRS conspiring to destabilise Cong Govt

Hyderabad: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has alleged a conspiracy to destabilise the Congress government in Telangana, accusing the BRS of provoking farmers to serve its own political ends. He strongly condemned recent attacks on officials in Lagcharla, vowing that all involved would face legal consequences.

In a statement released on Thursday, Srinivas Reddy said: “This act is both despicable and highly conspiratorial,” suggesting that the attack was part of a larger plot against the Congress government.

The government was committed to addressing the concerns of farmers and local citizens and encouraged dialogue. He decried any attempts to use farmers’ issues for political gain, warning that “attacking authorities is like attacking ourselves.”

Srinivas Reddy highlighted instances during the BRS government tenure where farmers had been mistreated, such as handcuffing farmers in the Khammam district and police abuse in the Sircilla constituency. He claimed the Congress government had been working democratically over the past 11 months to resolve public grievances, contrasting it with what he termed BRS’s “dictatorial regime.”

He called upon the BRS to “abandon petty, opportunistic, and conspiratorial politics,” urging the party to avoid sacrificing farmers’ welfare for political survival. “If the officials cannot be protected, which officer will step forward to serve the people?” the minister questioned, reiterating his appeal to the farming community to recognise the motives of what he called “pink goons” trying to disrupt peace.

The Lagcharla incident, he said, has been taken seriously by the state government, which is committed to ensuring both the security of its officials and a responsive government for the people.
