Minister Surekha Describes Deadly Attacks by a Tiger Unfortunate
Hyderabad: Forest minister Konda Surekha on Saturday said that the incidents of tiger attacks on two people in KB Asifabad district on Friday and Saturday were extremely unfortunate, despite the best possible efforts by department officials to reduce conflicts with wild animals.
In a statement, Surekha said that she was aghast at the two incidents, and death of Morle Laxmi, on Friday. She said that she has inquired from the KB Asifabad district forest officer Neeraj Tibrewal on the developments and steps being taken to prevent recurrence of such ghastly attacks.
The minister said that she was informed that the tiger, suspected to be involved in the two attacks, was moving towards the Maharashtra border.
She also said that Rs 10 lakh compensation was paid to Laxmi’s family and instructions were issued that Rauthu Suresh, who was injured in Saturday’s incident, receives all the required medical care.
Surekha said officials have been told to keep the people informed about the movement of tigers, and steps needed to be taken to avoid coming into conflict with tigers. Those going to their fields for work, or grazing cattle, should be on the alert and follow advice from officials to stay safe, she said.
