MLC elections in Telangana, AP to be held on Feb. 27: ECI

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to hold MLC elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on February 27 from 8 am to 4 pm while the counting would be conducted on March 3.

The last date for filing nominations is February 10 while the last date of withdrawal of nominations is February 13, according to ECI. The term of office of three members of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council from two Graduates' and one from Teachers' Constituency and three members of the Telangana Legislative Council from one Graduates' and two from Teachers' Constituencies were expiring on March 29 due to retirement of the sitting members.

The three constituencies in AP are East-West Godavari Graduates', Krishna-Guntur Graduates' and Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam Teachers' while three in Telangana are Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates', Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers' and Warangal-Khammam -Nalgonda Teachers'

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) concerning these elections will come into force with immediate effect in the constituencies, according to ECI under secretary Prafull Awasthi.
