Hyderabad: As against expectations of high sales, the sale of liquor was moderate during this Sankranti in Telangana on Sunday.
Like New Year, Dasara and Bonalu festivities, the shop owners expected high sales with long serpentine queues at the counters on account of Sankranti. They placed more indent for beer and whisky stocks with the depots of Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited anticipating high sales.
However, the sales were moderate as most of employees residing in Hyderabad left to their hometowns elsewhere in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to celebrate the festival on a grand note. Liquor shop owners said that situation has changed completely during the festival season this time with moderate sales compared to last year.
They said whisky outnumbered beer sales this time probably because of chilled weather conditions.
