Moderate Rains Enliven Christmas Festivities
Hyderabad: Festive joy received a refreshing boost as light to moderate rains brought cheers across parts of the city on Christmas day.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy skies, misty mornings and occasional light rain for Hyderabad in the coming days. Light rain or drizzle is expected on Thursday, followed by dry weather from December 27 onwards. Mist and haze will continue during the mornings until December 29, gradually giving way to partly cloudy and dry conditions. All zones in the city are likely to experience similar weather, with minimal impact throughout the week.
This weather pattern is due to a low-pressure area over the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal, which is expected to weaken in the next 24 hours. Easterly and southeasterly winds brought light rains in some parts of Telangana.
In Hyderabad, the temperatures over the next 48 hours are expected to be around 26°C during the day and 21°C at night, with light winds of 4-8 kmph.
On December 25, the maximum temperature was 28°C and the minimum at 20°C, while humidity stood at 84 per cent.
For Telangana, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers in isolated places up to December 27, along with morning mist or fog in some districts. From December 28 to 31, dry weather is expected across the state, with no warnings issued.
Taking on his X account, T. Balaji, popularly known as Telangana Weatherman, noted, “Widespread rains on Christmas Day are rare. I don’t recall seeing such rain in the last 10 years in the city.”
He added that while the showers were light to moderate, they were still unusual. He said that winters in 2023 were warm and dry, whereas this year it has been cooler with more rainy days.
IMD director K. Nagaratna, said that no weather warnings have been issued as the region is not expected to experience heavy rainfall.
