Morning Walkers Protest Indira Park Encroachments

Indira Park Morning Walkers Association urges HYDRAA to act against commercial takeovers of public land.

Hyderabad: Members of the Indira Park Morning Walkers Association have lodged a complaint with HYDRAA regarding encroachments within the park. During the Prajavani programme on Monday, they alleged that several public spaces, donated by Pingali Venkatrama Reddy for community use, were being taken over by private entities for commercial purposes.

They pointed out that of the park’s 76 acres, land had previously been allocated for a power substation, a garbage dumping yard and an amusement park. They claimed that the remaining space is gradually being occupied by commercial establishments.

On Monday, HYDRAA received 46 complaints from the public, many concerning encroachments on public spaces across the city. Residents of Green Hills Housing Colony in Bahadurpally reported that land designated for parks, schools and community halls is being converted into plots. Similarly, residents of Anthaipally in Shamirpet complained that unknown entities were encroaching on Chettukunta Lake and urged authorities to take immediate action.

HYDRAA advised complainants to disclose pending civil or criminal cases while filing grievances with Prajavani. It warned that withholding such information could result in action against the complainants. The agency also clarified that it does not intervene in personal disputes and only addresses cases related to government land and public spaces.
