Mothe had shown way for separate Telangana

NIZAMABAD: Mothe village in Velpur mandal of Nizamabad district was an inspiration story during the Telangana movement. It was the first village in Telangana region in then Andhra Pradesh that passed a resolution on June 5, 2001 supporting the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS now BRS).

Interestingly, people of Mothe had boycotted then ruling Telugu Desam, Congress and other political parties from the village affairs.

TRS founder president K. Chandrashekar Rao had visited Mothe village and took a handful of soil (matti) and made it as auspicious ‘mudupu’ to achieve separate Telangana. After the declaration of Telangana state, he visited Mothe again on March 28, 2014 and culminated the mudupu.

During the peak of the statehood movement, Rao had called upon other villages to take inspiration from Mothe.

Dolla Rajeshwar Reddy, MPTC member of Mothe, said the villagers had experienced severe drought due to lack of irrigation facilities. "We hoped that formation of Telangana state would resolve long pending problems and supported the TRS," he said. “Our prediction became reality and KCR sanctioned several sops to the Mothe village.”

The irrigation canal from Pachalanadkuda cheruvu to Mothe was constructed with `3.82 crore. Primary health centre, new office building for gram panchayat, additional class rooms for government school were also provided. BT roads were laid to connect Mothe village to other villages. Groundwater table in Mothe village significantly increased and barren lands became fertile. A separate primary agriculture cooperative society is also set up in the village.

Mothe villagers had met Rao in his official residence and shared their memories of the Telangana movement. He visited Mothe for an official programme in 2015.
