Motorists’ woes to end as Amberpet flyover to be opened from Maha Shivaratri

A whopping Rs.338 crore was spent for construction of Amberpet flyover: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: The newly constructed Amberpet flyover would be thrown open for the convenience of motorists on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri on Wednesday, bringing much needed relief to motorists, said Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy here on Tuesday. He said Rs.338 crore was spent for the construction of Amberpet flyover.

The announcement brought cheers to the motorists who can now expect a hassle-drive from Amberpet flyover after experiencing traffic chaos for years in the locality. He said the construction could not be completed on time because of the delay caused by the State government in acquiring land for the flyover works.

Speaking to media persons after inspecting the flyover with officials concerned, the Minister further stated that greenery and separate roads would be developed beneath the flyover. He physically inspected the flyover from Golnaka church to Vani Photo Studio in Amberpet.

The national highway from Chaderghat to Warangal was previously winded when former TDP president late NT Rama Rao was the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh. Since there were graveyards on both sides at Amberpet sixth lane, the task of widening the road became difficult.

“As an MP and former MLA of Amberpet Assembly constituency, I took the initiative and spoke to the Central government requesting that a flyover be constructed since there was a graveyard. There is a lot of traffic on this route. Local people also face constant traffic problems. People of Warangal and Khammam who pass through the national highway are also facing many difficulties,” he explained

In view of problems being faced by motorists, a request was made to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to sanction the flyover. The Prime Minister responded positively and sanctioned it.

“It is the responsibility of the State to acquire land for the construction of five other flyovers to complete them at the earliest. He reminded that the acquisition of land would be the sole responsibility of the State government,” he said.

In spite of obtaining sanctioning Rs.2.51 crore from the Central government for acquiring land, the State government failed to hand over the land to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He said he asked the NHAI and GHMC officials to take up beautification works beneath the flyover after convening a meeting with them.

He said that instructions were given to officials to first allow traffic from the flyover and then start beautification works. Kishan Reddy urged the State government to complete land acquisition and hand over land to NHAI for early completion of flyovers in other areas.
