MS project expansion to up water supply by 55 pc

Hyderabad: Completion of the phases 2 and 3 of the Mallanasagar project will increase the supply capacity of the project by 55 per cent. The expansion will add 300 million litters daily (MLD) to the existing capacity of the reservoir.

The additional water will be sufficient to meet the region's needs until 2030. The enhanced capacity will not only solve the water shortage issue but will ensure a stable supply for the next five to six years. The tender for the Mallannasagar project will be floated in two to three weeks after the release of the Government Order.

The Mallannasagar is a key initiative to address the water supply needs of the region. With a pipeline length of around 50 kilometers, the project aims to strengthen the Water Board currently benefitting 13 lakh households. The project provides a daily water supply of 550 million litres.

The project covers key regions of Telangana, including Siddipet, Gajwel and Medchal as well as its surrounding districts. Additionally, it provides water to the cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, ensuring a consistent water supply to urban and rural areas. This project will also provide water for industrial needs, said Ashok Reddy, MD, HMWS&SB. Plans for Krishna phases 4 and 5 have been prepared and they together aim to meet the water demand of the region up to 2050.
