Telangana HC orders initiation of criminal proceedings against revenue and registration departments officials
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has ordered initiation of criminal proceedings against revenue and registration departments officials belonging to Moinabad and Chevella, for registration of the assigned land given through the Laoni patta.
Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy directed the Rangareddy collector to conduct enquiry over the land an extent of 0.335 guntas in Sy. No. 176/23 at Aziznagar, Moinabad mandal, and register the criminal cases against the officials as per the Telangana Assigned Land (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977 Act.
The Judge specifically fixed a timeline of three months to complete the proceedings, from the date when the district collector received the complaint for action over the illegal transaction.
The judge also cautioned the revenue and registration officials to keep in mind that they are liable to face criminal action if they are involved in transferring assigned land.
The judge was dealing with a petition filed by the wife and three daughters of Antharam Laxmaiah, challenging the transactions over the assigned land that was assigned in favour of the latter. The male heirs of Laxmaiah sold the assigned land to a third party with the connivance with the revenue officials and sub-registrars.
The assigned condition was clearly stated that the land shall be used for agricultural purposes, but revenue officials converted it to non-agricultural land , despite Laxmaiah being shown as assignee in all the revenue records and the land being classified as Laoni Patta. In 2021, the Chevella sub-registrar allowed the transfer of assigned land through registration.
