Mulugu: Tiger footmarks send villagers into tizzy

WARANGAL: Locals on Tuesday became panicky as news spread about the sighting of a movement in the forests of Venkatapuram mandal in Mulugu district, based on its paw prints found on the outskirts of Alubaka village. Some farmers of Bodhapuram village, who had slept in their water melon fields, said that they had heard a tiger roar on Monday night.

District forest officer Rahul Kishan Jadhav said that after receiving information from the villagers, forest officials accompanied by three animal tracker teams visited the villages and spotted the footprints of the tiger.

The tiger is believed to have gone to the Chunchupalli forest region of Mangapet mandal. Officials cautioned shepherds, farmers and people not to venture near forest region to graze their cattle, goats and sheep.

They directed people and farmers to remove traps and electric fencing they laid to protect their fields from wild animals. They warned people of stringent actions as per wildlife protection Act if anyone tried to harm the big cat, he added.
