Mulugu to be municipality after Governor's assent

Warangal: With the state Cabinet clearing the proposal to upgrade Mulugu to a municipality on Saturday night, the long-pending demand of the people has finally been met. The resolution now awaits the Governor’s assent before Mulugu is officially declared a municipality.

In September last year, the panchayat raj minister, Seethakka, met Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan and urged him to approve the Bill.
The Bill was initially introduced on September 12, 2022, to make Mulugu a municipality and was later passed in both houses. However, it remained pending after being sent to the Governor for approval due to various reasons, including elections and a change in Governor.
Facing delays in the formation, Seethakka took special initiative. District authorities intensified efforts to ensure the municipality’s establishment. Instead of revisiting the old Bill, a new proposal was prepared, incorporating additional villages along with those previously suggested.
The new municipality will be formed by merging the village panchayats of Mulugu, Bandarapalli, Jivantharaopalli, and Jakaram, covering a total area of 64.22 sq km. The municipality will serve a population of 41,803 residents.
