Murder accused Gurumurthy to argue his case himself

Hyderabad: P. Gurumurthy, accused in the murder of his wife in Meerpet, on being produced before the magistrate in the LB Nagar court, stated that he would argue his case himself.

The court gave Gurumurthy given the right to defend himself, which is allowed in the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Before producing him in the court, the police reconstructed the crime scene, where CCTV footage showed Gurumurthy heading towards a lake with a bucket which is believed to have contained the remains of his wife Madhavi. The police then took him for medical examination at the Vanasthalipuram area hospital.

Meanwhile, the legal process will move forward with the appointment of a nominal lawyer from the district legal cell authority. The trial will come after the police file a chargesheet in the case.

During the argument stage, the nominal lawyer will be present to handle procedural matters such as bail and communication with the court and during the argument stage besides assisting the accused if necessary.
