Musharraf Faruqui honoured at R-Day Celebrations

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma led the Republic Day celebrations in the state on Sunday, unfurling the National Flag and taking the salute at the official event at the Parade Ground in Secunderabad. Musharraf Faruqui, chairman and managing director of the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL), was honoured for his leadership in strengthening the power infrastructure.

Government departments and organisations celebrated the occasion with pride, recognising achievements and reaffirming commitments to progress and development. Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha honoured healthcare workers for their service, particularly during emergencies. He stressed the importance of enhancing healthcare infrastructure to make quality medical services accessible to all citizens.

At the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), member-ssecretary G. Ravi unfurled the Tricolour and emphasised the importance of adopting sustainable practices to combat climate change and protect the environment. Employees took a pledge to contribute to a greener Telangana.

Nehru Zoological Park celebrated the day with the launch of the ‘Vrikshamrutam’ by curator J. Vasantha, aimed at promoting indoor plant cultivation and creating awareness about conservation. Staff members were also felicitated for their efforts in preserving wildlife and enhancing the zoo’s facilities.

At Aranya Bhavan, headquarters of the forest department, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests R.M. Dobriyal, head of the forest force, urged officials to prioritise environmental conservation and uphold constitutional values. The GHMC held an event led by commissioner K. Ilambharithi who highlighted the corporation’s achievements in urban infrastructure, beautification and the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Employees were lauded for their contributions to transforming Hyderabad into a more sustainable and liveable city.

At the HMWS&SB office, managing director Ashok Reddy acknowledged the workforce’s efforts in ensuring clean drinking water supply and efficient wastewater management across the city. HMDA metropolitan commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad spoke about this year’s theme, ‘Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas’, and HMDA’s efforts in promoting development while honouring India’s diversity and constitutional values.

At SBI’s local head office in Hyderabad, Chief General Manager Rajesh Kumar unfurled the National Flag and extended greetings. He talked about the banking sector’s role as an engine of growth, driving financial inclusion and supporting aspirations nationwide under the theme. The TSRTC celebrated the contributions of its staff in providing reliable public transport services. RTC vice-chairman and managing director V.C. Sajjanar spoke about the corporation’s initiatives to modernise its fleet, introduce electric buses, and improve passenger services.

The roads and buildings department acknowledged the efforts of engineers and workers in building and maintaining critical infrastructure. Cultural programmes showcasing Telangana’s rich heritage were organised across the state, with folk performances, patriotic songs, and art exhibitions drawing public attention.
