Naidu Compares Alliance’s Majority to 1982 NTR Wave

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister and Telugu Desam national president N. Chandrababu Naidu reminisced as he arrived at the NTR Bhavan in Hyderabad and held a meeting with important leaders of the party on Saturday.

Chandrababu Naidu recalled that there had been a wave in 1982 when late N.T. Rama Rao floated the Telugu Desam Party and toured all over the state extensively. In just nine months, people elected NTR as their chief minister. The incumbent CM said in 1994 too, there had been a revolution, when in the elections held then, Congress party even failed to get the status of the opposition party.

Referring to the 2024 polls, he pointed out that people have given YSRC only 11 assembly seats, while nominees of TD and alliance partners won seats with huge margins of votes ranging from 95,000 to 70,000. He described it as a unique happening, despite the previous YSR Congress government creating a series of hurdles. He attributed the alliance’s “wonderful results” to the party workers’ commitment to serve the people.

With regard to truncation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the AP Chief Minister maintained that though they tried to adapt the improved system used for developing Hyderabad from 2014 to 2019, the next government led by YSR Congress ruined the efforts to develop the capital city Amaravati like Hyderabad. The YSRC also undermined the Polavaram irrigation project, he stated.

Chandrababu Naidu said this resulted in AP falling back in development by 20 years.

He underlined that currently, AP has nearly ₹10 lakh crore debt. It has meagre sources of revenue at present. He emphasised the need to overcome such hurdles in the state.

On categorisation of SC communities as A, B, C and D, the AP CM stated that the then Telugu Desam government in 1996–97 had set up the Ramachandra Raju Commission and implemented SC categorisation into A, B, C and D. This continued up to 2004, providing justice to the people. He criticised the subsequent government for failing to present proper arguments on the issue before the Supreme Court, resulting in a verdict against the SC categorisation in AP.

Chandrababu Naidu said in 2024, the Supreme Court has given a judgment with 6:1 majority supporting the SC classification into A, B, C and D categories. He asserted that this will pave the way for social justice. He claimed that what they did with regard to SCs in the past has become relevant during the present times.

The Chief Minister called upon Telugu Desam leaders to reach out to people and propagate the party ideology further. This would win people’s trust and strengthen the party further, he observed.
