Nalgonda police bust 11-member thief gang

Nalgonda: The Nalgonda district police on Friday busted an 11-member gang which allegedly stole galvanized iron (GI) bundles and aluminium sheets from the Yadadari Thermal Power Plant at Damaracherla. The police recovered four GI bundles worth `71 lakh, `58 lakh cash, a car and two motorcycles, adding up to `1.49 crore from the possession of the gang members.

The gang comprised of Sheik Mohammed, 30, Sheik Muneer, 31, Kambala Ashok, 32, Sheik Razak, 29, Mohammed Feroz, 31, Mandha Srinu, 27, Manda Mahesh, 30, Manda Nagendra Babu, 28, Amit Kumar Bharadwaj, 43, Mohammed Jhani, 31, and Ravindra Prasad (40).

Manda Narendra Babu was a security guard while Amit Kumar Baradwaj and Rajendra Prasad were operators at the thermal power plant. They joined hands with the thief gang and carried out thefts of GI bundles and aluminium sheets for one-and-a-half years.

Presenting the gang to the media here, Nalgonda police superintendent Chandana Deepthi said officials of BHEL and other construction companies had lodged complaints with the Wadapally police on theft of the material.

The police filed three cases and formed a special police team to crack the cases, she added. The arrested gang members confessed that they sold the GI bundles and aluminium sheets to Sharbuddin at Musheerabad in Hyderabad.
