Telangana Education Dept Asked to Investigate Student Food Poisoning Incidents

Hyderabad: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a notice to Telangana School Education department director asking to conduct a proper inquiry into a series of incidents in which students staying in residential educational institutions fell sick after consuming unhygienic food.

Taking cognizance of the incidents, the Commission also asked the director to share a factual report with it in 15 days, said NCPCR Principal Private Secretary Dharmendra Bhandari. The Commission’s action follows in response to a complaint filed by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad State leader Konda Sai Prasad Goud.

According to Bhandari, the Commission received a complaint explaining regular food poisoning incidents in residential educational institutions run by the State government. The complainant has also highlighted the details of students, who lost their life apart from details of 886 students, who suffered health issues after consuming unhygienic food supplied in these institutions.

The complainant sought appropriate action to address the issue. Therefore, the Commission has taken cognizance of the matter under Section 13(1) (j) of CPCR Act- 2005. In view of the allegations stated in the complaint, the Commission requested Telangana Education department director to conduct proper inquiry into the matter and take necessary action. It asked to share a factual report to it in 15 days.
