NEET fiasco: Police foil students’ unions protest at Kishan Reddy’s house
Hyderabad: For the second time, students unions affiliated to various political parties tried to lay siege to the house of Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy here on Friday demanding the Central government scrap the National Testing Agency (NTA) holding it responsible for committing irregularities in conducting NEET exam.
Raising slogans, the irate students’ unions leaders led by National Students' Union of India (NSUI) district president Abhijit Yadav reached the residence of Kishan Reddy. The police personnel, who already got information about the students' protest, prevented them from laying siege to the Union Minister’s house by placing barricades.
A scuffle ensued between the police and students. However, the police foiled the students’ attempts and dispersed them from the premises. The police posted additional pickets to avert any untoward incidents near the Union Minister’s residence.
To put pressure on the Centre to scrap NTA, the students unions formed a united platform comprising leaders from Students Federation of India (SFI), NSUI, Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU), All India Students' Federation (AISF), Progressive Youth League (PYL) and Telangana Jagruthi Students (TJS) to intensify agitation against the Centre on NEET fiasco.
A few days ago, members of various students’ unions affiliated to Left parties and Congress tried to lay siege to his house demanding cancellation of NEET. But the police thwarted their attempt.
