New Complaint Accuses KCR, KTR and Others of Graft in ORR Deal
Hyderabad: A new complaint was lodged with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, former minister K.T. Rama Rao and other BRS leaders for indulging in alleged corruption by accepting electoral bonds from IRB Infra for awarding the Outer Ring Road (ORR) contract.
In the complaint, Rachala Yugander Goud said his complaint was on the suspected misuse of electoral bonds for accepting illicit funds, which appeared to involve corruption, abuse of official powers and the violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
"Suspicious transactions involving IRB Infra on April 27, 2023, the BRS government awarded a 30-year maintenance contract for the Outer Ring Road (ORR) Infrastructure Development. On July 4, 2023, IRB Infra purchased electoral bonds worth Rs.25 crore which were encashed by the BRS on July 13, 2023. The timing of transactions strongly suggested a quid pro-quo arrangement where the award of lucrative government contracts appeared to have been followed by a significant financial contribution to the BRS," Yugander Goud alleged in his complaint.
In another suspicious transaction made on September 28, 2023, the second unit of Kitex Garments was inaugurated in Ranga Reddy district. Shortly after Kitex Garments purchased electoral bonds worth Rs.10 crore on October 12, 2023, which were encashed by the BRS on October 16, 2023.
Similarly, after the announcement of the first unit getting operationalised in Warangal on June 16, 2023, Kitex bought electoral bonds worth Rs.15 crore on July 5, 2023, which were encashed by the BRS on July 17, 2023. The close timing of the government’s announcements and subsequent bond purchases raises strong suspicion of coordinated efforts to extract monetary benefits using political influence," the complainant alleged.
The complainant also requested the ED officials to probe the case to establish irregularities in connection with the electoral bonds and misuse of powers.
