DC Impact: GGH Chief Replaced After Birthday Fete in Hospital
Nizamabad: Superintendent of Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nizamabad, Prathima Raj, was removed from her position following controversies, including a birthday celebration held within the hospital premises. Dr P. Srinivas, a paediatrician, has been appointed as the new superintendent, taking charge on Tuesday.
Prathima Raj served as GGH superintendent for five years, initially appointed during the BRS government and continuing under the Congress government for the past year. However, health minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital's administration during a recent visit.
The situation worsened after an incident in which a patient’s husband, Kethavath Bidya Naik, was forced to carry his wife on his shoulders due to alleged negligence by hospital staff. The patient was admitted to the ICU. This was followed by a birthday celebration for the superintendent held in the hospital building, drawing further criticism.
Both incidents were reported by Deccan Chronicle on January 12, prompting action from the medical and health department. Principal secretary Christina Z. Chongthu issued orders replacing Prathima Raj with Dr Srinivas as superintendent.
