Nizamabad Revenue Officer Exploited Tax Collection, Gained Rs 6 crore Assets

Nizamabad: The modus operandi of Dasari Narender, in-charge revenue officer of Nizamabad Municipal Corporation , who was caught with Rs 6 crore disproportionate assets, has shocked different sections of people.

ACB officials produced Narender in SPE & ACB court on Saturday and which sent him to 14 days of judicial remand.

Narender joined the corporation on compensatory grounds after his father died in 1999. In 2006, he was made personal assistant to then mayor Dharmapuri Sanjay. During this time, he developed contacts with officials, politicians and businessmen.

During the BRS regime, he posed as a close associate of a key leader in Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency. Narender got into his grip all wings of the civic body. In addition, he allegedly managed a few municipal corporators.

The revenue wing collects cash from taxpayers for property tax and trade licences. Taking advantage of this, Narender collected huge cash from people. For last 25 years, he worked in different cadres. Although he was transferred thrice, sources said, he managed to get the orders cancelled.

Sources said Narender invested huge amounts in Maharashtra and Telangana. Recently, he planned to purchase one acre of prime land near the new collectorate here, and a dispute with the sellers led to the ACB case.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior official from Nizamabad Municipal Corporation said Narender share da rapport with senior officials in the municipal administration department and elected representatives. Three IAS officers worked as commissioners of the Nizamabad corporation but were unable to prevent his alleged corrupt practices due to pressure from politicians, sources said.
