Nizamabad: Water Released from Nizamsagar Project

Nizamabad: The authorities lifted one gate of the Nizamsagar project and released 2,000 cusecs of water into the downstream of the river Manjeera on Wednesday.

Water was released in the presence of advisor to the state government on agriculture, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Agros chairman Kasula Balraj, and irrigation department chief engineer P. Srinivas.

The Nizamsagar project has a water level of 1,403.67 feet, against its full reservoir level of 1,405.00 feet. The gross storage of the project is 17 tmc, but at present, 15 tmc of water is available. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Nizamsagar project assistant executive engineer D. Shiva Prasad said more gates will be released after monitoring the water situation.

In view of heavy rains in neighboring Maharashtra and Karnataka states, water flow in the river Manjeera increased. As a result, the Nizamsagar project received heavy inflows within a short period. Visitors thronged the Nizamsagar project to have a glimpse of the release of gushing water.
