Telangana Health Dept Lists Dos and Don'ts Against HMPV
Hyderabad: Telangana Director of Public Health and Family Welfare clarified that the Metapneumovirus (hMPV) is like any other respiratory virus which causes a common cold and flu-like symptoms during winter season, especially among younger and older age groups.
So far, no case of Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is reported in the state, it said in a press release on Saturday.
It also issued a set of do's and don'ts to safeguard against respiratory infections, including the Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV), amid reports of an outbreak in China.
Do’s:
1. Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue paper when you cough or sneeze.
2. Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer.
3. Avoid crowded places and maintain more than an arm's length from persons affected with the flu.
4. Stay away from public places if you have fever, cough, or sneezing.
5. Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food.
6. Ensure adequate ventilation with outdoor air in all settings to reduce transmission.
7. Stay at home and limit contact with others if you are sick.
8. Get enough sleep for proper rest and recovery.
Don’ts:
1. Do not shake hands.
2. Do not reuse tissue paper or handkerchiefs.
3. Avoid close contact with sick people.
4. Refrain from frequent touching of your eyes, nose, and mouth.
5. Do not spit in public places.
6. Do not take medicines (self-medication) without consulting a physician.
