No Urea Shortage in Telangana Despite Centre’s Supply Gap: Minister Tummala
Agriculture minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao said that there was no shortage of urea in the state despite rising demand and a shortfall of 1.60 lakh metric tonnes supply from the Centre.

Hyderabad: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao said that there was no shortage of urea in the state despite rising demand and a shortfall of 1.60 lakh metric tonnes supply from the Centre. He said that Markfed held 3.08 lakh tonnes of stocks which would be used to bridge the shortage.
In a release, the minister said farmers had bought 8.8 lakh tonnes of urea this Rabi, against 6.9 lakh tonnes last year. In February, farmers bought 2.59 lakh tonnes of urea, against 1.99 lakh tonnes in the same month last year.
Against this, Telangana only received 6.81 lakh tonnes of urea from the Centre when it should have got 8.54 lakh tonnes, Nageswara Rao said in the statement.
He said that urea usage had increased because of the availability of water leading to a rise in acreage under paddy and maize by five to ten per cent. He said BJP leaders should ask the Centre to supply urea stocks to Telangana.
After a meeting with officials Nageswara Rao said The availability of stocks was being reviewed continuously and urea was supplied to areas facing a shortage.
